SuperStates’ Exciting New Tournament Structure!

The City of Santa Clarita is once again sponsoring CYCL’s production of the Southern California Scholastic SuperStates Chess Championships and the 2013 event appears to be on its way to establishing our valley as a favorite venue for chess players throughout the Southland.

CYCL is excited to once again have contracted with the Valencia Hyatt as our venue. The ballrooms and grounds make for a fitting setting for such a prestigious event.

Coach Jay has implemented a new idea that has never been tried before at this event – double-round Swiss format for the Junior Varsity divisions. What this means is that the players in the JV divisions will play two games against each opponent they face – one as White, one as Black. This format has several advantages including:

1)  More games means more experience;

2)  Even amount of White and Black guaranteed; and,

3)  Players can lose a game or two and still have a chance to win an award.

There are 12 total sections for SuperStates, so players of ALL levels from grades K-12 are welcome! Details can be found at www.superstates.cycl.org/
